Razia does the forbidden when she announces that she has witnessed the moon on the eve of Eid. Her bold action brings her in the crosshairs of the imams (religious heads of the Delhi Sultanate) and the commoners. Razia defends her actions by highlighting the discrimination made between men and women. The imams ask the Sultan to apologise to his subjects for his daughter's actions. Shamshad Begum and Qutub Begum, Razia's mother, are anxious.
