Watch this very special episode of Collider Heroes with Jon Schnepp, Robert Meyer Burnett, Umberto ‘El Mayimbe’ Gonzalez and our own Editor-in-Chief Steve ‘Frosty’ Weintraub, as they talk all things Deadpool — spoilers, discussion, and speculation moving forward. What could Deadpool’s success at the box office mean for the franchise, and what could it mean for the now hot ‘hard R’-rated superhero movies out there in development?
Did we mention this is a SPOILER discussion? Because it is. If you haven’t seen Deadpool yet, what’s wrong with you? Go out and see this movie. For the rest, let’s dive in with Jon and his guests.
To start, Jon, El Mayimbe, Robert and Frosty loved the movie, needless to say. The guys all comment on their personal experiences and some of their specific reactions. And everyone agreed – the movie reinvigorated the genre because it focused on its source material, and by doing so, managed to give the audiences something different in a very special way.
The guys also discuss one of the big winners in all this – the viral marketing campaign that 20th Century Fox mobilized in a perfect way. This led to a great discussion about what they all loved about the marketing, with some of their favorite examples.
Deadpool’s success also traveled throughout the industry as well. Robert even shares a story about what X-Men director Brian Singer thought of the movie, and especially, if they kept a very funny joke in the finished cut.
Even the supporting cast gets a ton of mentions from the crew. Everyone chimes in on some of their favorite characters in the movie – as well as one particular mutant that finally got his chance to shine!
The guys all talked about their favorite parts of the movie — the love story. Despite teases from the marketing for the movie showing posters that were for a romantic comedy (of all things), everyone was impressed with how they pulled off the love story.
From all of that to the Easter Eggs (there are too many things to mention in one post), to its connection to the bigger X-Men universe and whether or not we’ll ever see our favorite mutants in the same movie with Deadpool, the guys all go into some behind-the-scenes talk, and speculate on what to expect moving forward.
And of course, they also discuss the mega-sonic-amazing action set pieces and style that was some of the best action in any movie – comic book or otherwise. It’s a thorough look at every side of Deadpool, so enjoy!
